Mental Fortitude

Mental toughness and physical fitness compound over time. Small decisions you make every day add up. Forgo the large milky sugar-loaded coffee and go to your morning exercise class. You won’t see the difference over night, but you’ve just strengthened your mind and willpower in addition to giving your body a nutritional reprieve and fitness treat.

Three years ago, I made up my mind to change my life. I took control of my mind, body, and happiness. Immediate gratification became a thing of the past and the pursuit of mental willpower evolved as my champion theme.

Mental willpower is a work in progress. Like exploring my limits with yoga, CrossFit, and endurance events, I don’t feel like I’ve “arrived,” and I don’t know that I ever will.

One day, I will meet my physical limits; but the mental toughness game is never ending. Compassion, love, and fortitude are a choice and a destination-less journey. I choose to master and personify positive traits that will propel and empower myself and those that I love (that includes you).

As we age, mental toughness and clarity become our Holy Grail. 40 is average age for Ironman Triathletes. Why? We salivate over the test of mental willpower as we learn the limits of our physical body.

The June 2012 version of myself:

3 years ago, I could barely clear a 10″ jump without holding my coach’s hand. I was terrified and out of shape.

Power = Work / Time.

Anything’s possible with the right attitude.
